How I build sites
A site is assembled layer by layer
Scroll — the site builds itself. Next to it, why every layer is there. The example is made up: a cake shop for dachshunds.

Step 1 / 7
The grid.
Everything starts here. Whether the site looks right on a phone depends on the grid. You never see it on a finished site, but without it everything falls apart.

Step 2 / 7 · Navigation
Navigation.
Four or five items, no more. When a menu has fifteen links, people do not choose — they leave.
Step 3 / 7 · Headline
The first screen.
You have about three seconds for someone to understand where they landed. So it is one thought here, not a paragraph.
Step 4 / 7 · Subheadline
The clarification.
One or two lines that answer the main question: “is this even for me?”
Step 5 / 7 · Button
The call to action.
One. When there are five buttons, none of them get clicked.
Step 6 / 7 · Illustration
The image.
It sells harder than text, which is why it sits next to the headline and not at the bottom of the page.
Step 7 / 7 · Cards
The offer.
Three items is the sweet spot. More gets tiring, fewer looks thin.
Every site is assembled this way — only the content changes. Yours will be built the same.
